Been Conned by Auto Service Facilities Again and again

Remember your service receipt the last time you had your automobile examined for a basic maintenance run-through?

Brake pads that put your budget at risk. Seat upholstery sets that make you pay for more than an arm and a leg, just because they carry logos of Hello Kitty or Mickey Mouse or some other cutesy pop-icon. Interior mats with price tags with enough zeros to make hyperventilate. Its not all that weird to expect that just about every single industrial fiber its made of must have super absorbent qualities like your best-all-around sponge. Or worse, obscure automobile products that you totally have no idea on-how it works, why you need, do you really need it?-and you get the surprise of your life when you finally get your hands on your repair bills and see just how much the total is because of these replacement parts.

Certainly, these concerns may sound standard, or for quite a few, even unintentionally amusing-certainly for DIYers or car drivers whove had the same problems, but but didnt allow this to stand and made the effort to find a way to get better car maintanance service someplace else.

Ever wondered why you should pay a lot for a nut or bolt or bushing set that you could get cheaper elsewhere? Or perhaps you didnt know? The jokes on you, and youre pretty much allowing yourself to get played.

Maybe its time you stopped getting yourself hosed. While it used to be true that you just had no urgent need to learn a few things about auto service, searching for a dependable automobile repair service center to look after your car service needs is now a must. It doesnt have to be a great deal. You dont have to have a legion of choices. A short list will do. Even just one would do.

Dont settle for service shops that are out to hose you. Keep your eyes peeled reputable, trustworthy ones. Seek information. Find them. Theres nothing more discouraging than having to go back to the auto repair center that you think conned you, just because you dont want the hassle of finding a better one..

Auto Repair and Care Experts Present How to Verify an Auto Repair Estimate

You may know nothing about auto repairs but this does not mean that you can be easily scammed by mechanics and technicians who may only after your money. Even if you may not know what an alternator is, you can still be able to tell if you are given a fair estimate or not. Here are some tips on how to achieve this:

o Find out what repairs should be made to your car. Let the mechanic do his own diagnosis of the problem.

o If some parts have to be replaced, then learn the cost of replacing these parts. If the parts needed are original equipment / parts made by the car manufacturer, then you have to make sure that you do not pay more than the manufacturers recommended price. Take note that you can save money by using used parts instead since they have a wider price range.

o Make sure that you understand what the mechanic plans to do to your car. If you only want a routine maintenance job, that is what you should get. You do not need to deal with tire rotation or oil changes when they are not necessary.

o When you get the bill make sure to check it out. Miscellaneous items may be used to cover the rags that have been used on your engine or fees for hazardous waste but they can also be used to add a few extra dollars to the total charge.

o If there is something in the bill that you do not understand - whether it is in small print or illegible hand writing or techno terms and services that you do not know existed - then ask questions and clear things up.

The best way to avoid being scammed or cheated out of your well earned money is to make sure that you are dealing with an honest and good mechanic. Ask your family or friends if they have any recommendations. And if you have an eligible candidate, do a background check by checking with the Better Business Bureau to see if there are any complaints filed against this mechanic or auto repair shop.

Working With Auto Repair Mechanics How to Identify Them

Once you got yourself out of the phone and finally in the auto repair shop, its imperative that you know the type of auto repair mechanics/technicians youll be dealing with. Knowing their style and what theyre all about when it comes to getting your car problem repaired, is crucial.

Like the quoters, there are also different kinds of auto repair mechanics. And they fall in 3 major categories that you should be aware of, if you want to make sure that youre going to get the best results for your car repair problems.

a. Part Pitchers - These are the types who keep pitching parts at the problem until it goes away or until the bill reaches a certain amount (that they feel will suffice.) They are usually; either under-skilled or just dont care.

They have a certain swagger, have a tendency to loud and blunt with their estimation. Theyre not a big fan of testing and most likely will jump right at the problem.

b. Diagnostic Divas - These are those that appear to love to tinker and test, check and re-test. You might even mistake them for analytical experts for the amount of time they put in doing all the tinkering and testing, just to get to the problem. The most telling quality for these folks is whenever you call in to check on the status, youll keep hearing the same old thing, "Were still running diagnostics... looks like this one is harder than we thought. You should probably leave it here another day." The bottom-line of which is, another 3-8 hours more of labor.

They also tend to linger longer when checking out the problem in your car - just so they can find more stuff to sell you with. And that would not be too bad, if they were not billing you for the check-up!

c. Shortcuts Shorty - These are what most would call the "out-of-the-box thinkers." They are the perfect auto repair mechanics to call when you youre on a very tight budget, as they will almost always find a way to cut down on the time and expense for any given situation. The only downside (and the most critical one at that) is that effects of cutting corners in auto repair can be quite horrible and all the more expensive!

They will commonly just eyeball the problem or do a quick diagnostic, take 2 minutes looking at the car while thinking of a fast action plan, and then swing into gear. They can make a 4-hr job into 2, cut $600 part down to half and almost promise that the car owner will be back in a months time with more additional problems. (Big shops just love them!)

Auto Repair Help Learn How to Repair Cars And Trucks Auto Repairs

ASE
Thanks for coming to this blog to learn how to repair cars and trucks. If you just bought a car for the first time and are wondering how to care for your vehicle weather it be a car or truck you came to the right place. First let me tell you a little bit about me so that you can distinguish the difference between a regular blogger and a real auto mechanic. Right out of high school I went to a vo-tech to complete a 2 year course in auto mechanics. I then went to a 9 month course at a reputable automotive Institute in Wichita Kansas. After receiving my Diploma and completion certificates in auto repair I went directly to work. I attended night classes in auto repair to keep up with the new technology coming out every year. During a 20 year time span I completed my ASE certifications in what really interested me the most which was Engine Performance. My other certifications were in Electrical & Electronics, Brakes, and air conditioning.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT

What I would like to know from you is what kind of vehicle do you drive and what kind of problems you are having with it. Make sure to leave the engine, make, and model year of vehicle you have. You can leave it in the comment section here in my personal blog. I will research your car or truck and get back to you on a first come first serve basis. I will try to explain to you how to fix your own vehicle with the description that you leave. There is no such thing as giving me to much information. If you would rather shoot me an email my personal email address is

FREE AUTO REPAIR HELP
auto-dude@msn.com. I believe there is no such thing as a dumb question when it comes to repairing your car or truck depending on what type of vehicle you have. I will tell you what type of manual you will need along with the special type of tools you will have to have in fixing your car or truck. Go ahead and give it a try because this is all FREE with no gimmicks. I just want to help you repair your vehicle.

ENGINE PERFORMANCE
So if you want to learn how to fix your car or truck by yourself without paying a auto repair shop $75.00 per hour leave me a comment or shoot me an email. I would like to say once again my specialty is in engine performance which deals with your vehicle hesitating, stalling out, no power, hard to start cold or hot, etc. let me know and I will do my best to help you fix your vehicle. From carburetors to fuel injection and from points and condenser to distributor less ignition systems I will help you fix your car or truck for Free! What do you have to lose? Taking Your Car to an Auto Repair Shop

Many people consider themselves to be handy or mechanically inclined. It is a good skill to be able to take apart (and put back together) the inner workings of a motor, a brake system, an electrical system or other mechanical system of a vehicle. These people often elect to work on their cars and trucks themselves instead of bringing the vehicles into an automotive shop for repairs. While this may seem like a wise decision financially, there can be some major repercussions, especially if the vehicle uses complex computer or mechanical systems that the owner has no experience working with.

Modern cars and trucks are more complex and designed differently than vehicles from twenty years ago. Environmental standards and technological advancements have changed the way auto manufacturers design their cars. Someone who has prior experience working on older vehicles may not recognize the new technology under the hood of late-model cars and trucks.

Professional automotive service technicians must undergo rigorous training to understand how new automotive technology works and the most effective method of repair and upkeep. It is a constant learning process, and the daily experience allows these auto mechanics to keep up with the ever-changing landscape of automotive technology.

Changing the oil and repairing a flat tire is knowledge that every car owner should have. There is no doubt that learning basic vehicle maintenance techniques will allow car owners to save a little money by doing repairs themselves. However, a professional automotive repair shop should be used if there is any doubt about a certain technique or method of repair. Someone who is experienced and certified in automotive service should always do more complex repairs and procedures.

When you sit behind the wheel of a vehicle, you trust that the manufacturer has taken precautions to ensure the safety of you and your passengers. Similarly, when you bring your car to an auto repair shop, you trust that the auto mechanic has taken appropriate measures to properly fix the issue so you and your passengers can travel on the roadways safely and without incident. Would you trust your safety and the safety of others in the hands of an inexperienced person? If there is any doubt about how to fix a problem, or if you have no experience with vehicle maintenance, do not attempt to perform major repairs on your vehicle. One mistake could lead to disaster. Not only might it cost you more money in the long run to have professionally repaired, you could jeopardize the overall safety of the vehicle.

Make sure the person who performs maintenance and repairs on your vehicle is someone who knows what they are doing. A professional automotive mechanic has the necessary knowledge, experience and skill set to tackle any auto problem. Find an auto technician you can trust and your car or truck will be in good hands for many years.

Auto Repair Beware of Skeezy Technicians

Taking your car to the mechanic can be a frustrating experience. Most people no little if anything about car repair, leaving them at the mercy of the mechanic. While many mechanics are reputable professionals, there are also many who pull quick scams in order to make a fast buck and keep your car coming back for repairs indefinitely. Here are some common auto repair scams to keep a look out for the next time you bring your car in for a service.

Not Doing the Job
Many auto mechanics simply cant get the job done right. While no mechanic is perfect and sometimes fixing a problem takes a bit of trial and error, others simply dont perform the required auto repairs. Look for auto shops with good customer service policies such as warranties and free estimates. Its also wise to ask the mechanic to show you what was done and explain it to you. If youre having a new part installed, ask to receive the old part along with the packaging for the replacement to ensure you got what you paid for.

Extra Work
You brought your car in for a tune up and ended up with an outrageous bill. Some auto repair con artists will try and convince you that they performed necessary and important repairs without your express permission. No repair should be performed without consulting the owner first. You should also get everything in writing. Be wary of charges that greatly exceed the estimate as well.

Premium Prices
Many auto repair shops have a "dont ask, dont tell" policy when it comes to the type of parts they order. They often choose the most expensive, and most people are so clueless about cars that they agree. The internet gives you a cheap and fast way to shop around for prices. Ask what part is needed and then do a search on your own before having the repair done. You may bring in the part yourself and just pay for the labor if you find a better price. You can also ask to have a used part instead of a new part.

Multiple Estimates
Some people are so desperate to get their cars back on the road that they drop them off at the first auto repair shop they find. This can put a huge dent in your wallet. Visit two or three different shops and youre likely to find great discrepancies in the prices, possibly even by hundreds of dollars. Youre also likely to get different opinions on what repairs need to be performed.

Unnecessary Repairs
Sometimes scam artist auto repair mechanics will try and convince you that you need extra repair work done. While some may be legitimate suggestions, its good to check around and see how often certain parts should be changed. Its also good to keep records of all your repairs and tune-ups so you can check to see what has been performed recently. If you just had your air filter replaced and you find a shop owner is insistent you need a new one, time to find a new mechanic.
